Brussels and Comics

June 20th, 2009

Question: What have Tintin, the Smurfs and Gaston Lagaffe in common? Answer: their creators (Hergé, Franquin and Peyo) were all born in Brussels. Since 2009 the museum celebrates the comic strip of its 20th anniversary. For everything that made Brussels the year 2009 to the year of the story.

Exciting city
Do you think the city of Brussels as a gift in 2009 over 10 frescoes there was? A total of 38 murals now adorn the walls of many buildings. For a part of it we’ll see you on a fascinating tour mode. Why suffer from graffiti? To guard against the spray puts Brussels since 1991 various artists at work. Hergé and Franquin and Marc Sleen to Vandersteen and many got them each a wall to decorate. This was a fascinating street museum.

Captain Haddock
Our walk starts at the Grand Place where we take the Goot Street (towards MannekenPis Pis). In the distance we see a towering apartment building, but halfway Tintin and Captain Haddock on a long ship’s ladder. Nobody knows where they come from and where they go. Like many people we pass on the street. But everyone knows these two cartoon characters of Hergé.

Through the Stoofstraat we walk to the fireworks Eikenstraat where we see the Fireworks achterpui of the company. A boy who looks like the Maurice Chevalier, complete with his hat, it has to explode for a beautiful girl. From the foot of the mountain climbs a long procession to the top to see the fireworks. Gnomes, bourgeoisie, a judge and a sorcerer.

Street 1950
In the Rue des Villers we go right (Rue de Dinant) and then right again to Alex Iens Celebardstraat. It is across the cafe Goudbloemeke the paper. Shortly afterwards we see on the side of the building block of a beautiful fresco of the movie Rob de Cine. In Koene colors, the streetscape from the 1950s to life here.

On the corner of Rue Rue Midi Bogaards and we are an entertainment area. On the walls, we see several frescoes of cafes. As the typical Belgian cafe Mort Subite that in real life is at the end of the Hubertus Gallery.

Via Bogaardenstraat and Goot Street and Lady Broederstraat we Assistance to the Street. Since bungelt Rick Ringers to a gutter for a girl to save just before a freak in a black raincoat with a dagger on her heels wants. How would he save her? If they are hanging on his leg then they might Commissioner Maigret who just wants to go in the house.

Flat Rock
By au we walk to the corner Lombard Street. Verve Street and Flat Rock. A lady and the Lord of the interwar period (between first and second world war) look in the beau monde of now. Surprised them about our time?
On the other cartoon characters come from the cafe. They seem so away from the tavern Plattesteen of them is. Above a blue ribbon of water white gulls fly to the city. On the water, people, they follow the birds. And we walk to Rue d’Anspach at No 98 where a large strip shopping area. They sell everything in Belgium in the story appears.

Then we walk to the St Géry Street. As we see notables who ferociously in a tree climbing. The top is Thousand Fleet. Under Nero it threatens to fall down. Then Madame and Monsieur Pipe and below includes Jan Speer strain. How Jan manages to become the most famous fries bakers of Belgium we do not understand. His belly is bigger than the size kot his bakes fries. In the grass of the world painted by Marc Sleen Zwam tracker is bent in his hand a magnifying glass. He traces? Self prosecute our footsteps to the Kathuizerstraat. In addition to the beautiful floats Jugenstilcafe Kantrima an angel. Surrounded by spells hijzijn proclaims wisdom. Such as: lost illusions found truths.

Lucky Luck
Via Rue Anne Sens and rue ‘t Kint we walk to the Washuisstraat. Since rob Lucky Luck and his comrades have just one bank. Lucky shoots faster than his shadow, but painting is equally fast. He renamed his brush in the paint and voila. The bank displays a poster with the words, therefore, sought the pictures of him and his comrades and the great amount of 1000. This beautiful sum ironing the crooks themselves by simply steal. The well-filled bags, they escape into the desert where a mirage looms up the antomium.

Even further in the Asterix and Obelix Washuisstraat to the Romans in the pan heels. The whole village to rent them to help. Obelisk welcomes all and rubbed their hands. Idea Fixie line. A huge fresco with shipping. Through the Zenne Street we walk to the Factory Street and then in the Kruit Molenstraat by the Communauté de la Poudrerie. As we see how two pieces of world divided on the scales of a risk. The scales are long ropes which culminate in the hands of people. Cramp-like trying to balance between rich and poor, north and south, to recover. Are we back we see people who celebrate, dance, dancing, music playing. It is just as in ordinary life, one is serious, the other is fun.

We take the factory street where two opposite sides are beautiful frescoes. In one dream the kid Nick on animals. From a monkey to a mouse with them elephants and other large animals. On the other is the ship’s boy Coruntin top of the mast of a ship. He sends in the distance. It symbolizes the high ships that are used to accept the center of Brussels. Personally, we walk back to the center through Senne and Foyer, the Rue de Dansart, the New Grains and Muntplein.

Museum of Art
In 2009, the Museum of the story 20 years. Built in 1989 grew into one of the main attractions of Brussels. It not only offers a wealth of information but is also situated in a breathtakingly beautiful building. This dates from 1906 and is among the most beautiful buildings of architect Victor Horta.
